My neurophils have dropped to 1.9 on 3 separate occasions. Each time my GP has been on the phone within hours of the bloodtest telling me I had to reduce my mtx dose. This is why I have never got above 7.5. He said neurophil levels need watching closely or you are open to nasty infections (My GP is brilliant and really on the ball)
Hope you feel better

Hi Posie,

Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell which are needed to fight infections.
Normal value 2.0 to 7.5
Lymphocytes normal value 1.5 to 4.0.
Normal white cell count 4.0 to 11.0.

Hi Posie

Neutrophils are normally checked providing a full blood count with differentials (diffs) is requested; usually the case, as it all comes out of the one phial of blood and not a separate test.

My monitoring book gives the same values as Doreen with the exception of lymphocytes which are 1.0 - 3.0. Different labs may have slightly different readings.

Hi Sue

I had the same problem with methotrexate causing neutropenia; I ultimately had to come off MTX because of this. Every time I went back on it the neutrophils dropped and I had one infection after another for about 4 months!

Now I have steroid controlled RA ... I don't know which is worse!! Scared

Hello All,

I woke up early morning with pains in tummy and 'nasty ness' coming away from me.ThumbDown
Horrid stuff plus blood. I went to the chemist who said i needed to go the local
hospital and see the emergency staff there.

Also woke up with very sore throat and glands.

Saw Doc and said I have infection and traces of blood in the urine, also my
white blood celss were high

Hopefully the tablets he gave me will kick in soon.

How is it this is a common in RA.

Hi Rose

Sorry to hear you are unwell and needed hospital treatment.

Infections in RA are common unfortunately due to the immuno-suppressant drugs we are all familiar with. Basically you have picked up an infection which your body is unable to fight and it has taken hold. An increase in the white cell count is synonymous with infection or inflammation. Has the doc given you a course of antibiotics?

Hope you feel better soon,

hi Rose,

really sorry to hear you're still struggling with infections,

i'm in the same boat. i've had 2 lots of Anti-Biotics for UTI and my white cells were showing in urine but i know i haven't cleared up properly yet.

so i am going to take a sample in on Thursday to the GP Nurse when i give my monthly bloods.

i feel that i'm taking two Meds i.e. Methotrexate and Hydoxy which currently aren't working for me apart from making me vunerable to infections as well as the RA !!

i think it will be another month at least before i start on Humira so it seems a long road, a year now and feel i'm going backwards.

wishing you well Rose,

Suzanne x

not cleared up.

Suzanne, so sorry to hear that yours also is not properly cleared away. Blessed nuisance isn't. Trust you get
started soon.

However, I have still not started Humira - I rang the nurse last week after having the clearance of the
chest x ray, and am due to ring her this coming Tuesday - I cannot see that happenning now either. Grr.

Hey ho the weather is so great for April though and the sun does make you feel better.(although a lot of
us actually aren't.

Hello

you have my sympathies, i know how very poorly UTIs can make you feel.

I had lots of them at one point, when I took Enbrel- in the end I got ever so sick and then had to stop the enbrel. The drugs we take for RA, MTX and Enbrel and others are secreted through the liver and kidneys so they get a BIgger hit.

Drink lots and lots of water. Rest up.

Much love

Jenni xx

Hi Rose

I am so sorry you are poorly. I haven't had a problem with uti yet but it sounds awful and painful. I do hope you are feeling better soon and your doctor is taking proper care of you.

Hi Rose

So sorry to hear how poorly you are again. As Jenni said, UTI's can make you feel the pits, so I hope the tablets work very quickly for you.

Glad you are resting - keep it up and take care - plus loads of fluids.

Lots of love
Jeanxxx
